About Us

Our Church

First Baptist of Garden Grove is a uniquely southern church with a contemporary vision. Unique because we have "Snow-birds" (northerners) as well as year-rounders. Our vision is to glorify God and we have grown in our willingness to be relevant and evangelistic in every way we can.

You will find our church a family oriented ministry. We try to meet the needs of our members, from the nursery through retirement, while reaching out to our community to share the gospel and compel the unchurched to meet Jesus.

We are the friendliest church you may ever visit... Not our own bragging but that of others. So whether  you live in the area or are just passing through and want to experience a Gospel presentation mingled with love and sincerity, we invite you!

Our Pastor

James E. Caskey

Pastor James was born in Sandusky, Ohio and lived in Ohio until he graduated from high school. He was born-again at age 10 in an old fashion Baptist Church as he felt the conviction of sin and direction of the Holy Spirit.

After high school he attended bible college in Indiana as well as in Ohio.

Pastor James has served as a youth pastor and Sunday school director as well as camp preacher and Christian School teacher. Pastor James has also taught the Bible extensively in many venues including college level.

Pastor James has pastored two churches in Ohio prior to coming to Florida. With nearly 30 years of ministry experience he has a heart for God's people and a heart for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Pastor James has 6 children ranging in age from 2 to 27 and is married to Angie.

Our Staff

Angie M. Caskey

Angie is the director of our ladies ministry. She loves the ladies of our church especially and prays for them daily.

Through her leadership and servant spirit she has founded the "Sister Act", a servant ministry to help meet the spiritual and physical needs of widows in our church.

Angie organizes and directs our annual Widow's Banquet.

Angie teaches our teen girls in S.S., teaches a AWANA class and also directs ladies events throughout the year.

Dolores Newsome

Dolores is our church secretary. But her title hardly does her justice for she is nearly the Pastor's right hand. Dolores does so much more than file papers and answer the phone. She helps plan events and run programs and 1,000 other servant duties. We thank God for servant leaders who know how to get things done.

Our Mission Statement

"Leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ."

Plan Of Salvation

Five(5) seconds after you die you will believe in eternity.

Where will you be? What will you be thinking at that time? What will you see? WHO will you see?

The most important question you can ever ask yourself is, "Where will I spend eternity?"

If you are not 100% sure it will be in heaven with God please read the following and consider what the Bible says:

First...  You can't make it to heaven on your own! The Bible teaches us that we are all sinners, and our sin separates us from God. (Romans 3:23) Many people have false ideas on how to get to heaven, but God says we must follow Jesus' way - He is the Way, the Truth, Life... No man gets to God by any other way.

From God's perspective we all fall short, and our sin condemns us to death and hell. (Romans 5:12; 6:23)

Now for the Good News... God loves you! God loves us so much He gave His one and only Son to come to the earth to die for our sins. Jesus paid our due punishment and His payment satisfied God...On our behalf. (Romans 5:8)

Jesus is God's gift to mankind. A gift cannot be earned, but it must be received and accepted to be yours. Have you accepted Christ?  He is not ours just because we may want Him and need Him. You must trust Jesus to do for you what you cannot do for yourself - pay your sin debt.  Once you accept Christ and His substitutionary death on the cross to forgive your sins you become God's child...Being "born again" is what God requires.(John 3)  Now that is GOOD NEWS!

Someone may ask...But HOW do I receive the gift of God for salvation?

  1. Agree with God that you are a sinner and you cannot ever be good enough to save yourself. Tell God , pray to Him.    (Romans 10;9,10) Confess to God that you understand the penalty for sin is death and hell and that you want His forgiveness. God is listening, God cares, and God will save you.

  2. Tell God you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay your death penalty for sin. Tell God you believe that Jesus arose from the grave and lives to offer eternal life for you. Accept, receive and trust by faith that now Jesus IS your personal Savior and Lord.(Romans 10:9-13)

Once you have followed God's way of salvation you are His child. Do not be ashamed. (Romans 10:11)

Please understand that Satan is a liar and he will attempt to diminish, thwart and nullify your born again experience. But remember, Satan has no power over Christ Jesus, and through Him you have already won. Rejoice! For your name is written in heaven. (1 John 5:18)

Now...tell someone else the Good News. Witness to others what Jesus has done for you...Go ahead, you will experience joy unspeakable as you help others escape hell. We are all commanded to witness for Christ. (Matt. 28:19,20; 2 Tim. 2:2)

What We Believe

We believe the Bible is the Word of God without error, the sole authority for man.(2 Tim. 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:20,21)

We believe there is one God, manifested in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Gen. 1:26; 2 Cor. 13:14)

We believe that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, was born of a virgin, is wholly God and wholly man, lived a sinless life, died a substitutionary sacrificial death for the sins of mankind, was buried, arose from the grave 3 days later, ascended into Heaven and resides on the right hand of God the Father. (John 1:14; 3:16; Matt. 4; Luke 4; Heb. 4:15; 2 Cor. 5:21)

We believe in the literal, bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth. (Rev. 19)

We believe that man is a creation of God, made in His image. (Gen. 1:26,27)

We believe that mankind fell through the sin of the first man Adam, and that all men are sinners in need of salvation.(Gen. 3:15; Rom. 5:12-15)

We believe that salvation is a gift of grace from God, received through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:8,9; John 1:12; Titus 3:5)

We believe that water baptism is in obedience to the command of Jesus Christ and is by immersion after salvation.          (Rom. 6:3-10)

We believe that the local church is the local body of baptized believers with Jesus Christ as the head. (Eph. 1:22,23)

We believe true Biblical worship is all about God! The congregation's highest priority and privilege is worship.  (Ps. 2:11) Worship and praise surely must be from the heart and therefore not dull or emotionless. However, it should not be "man-centered", carnal nor a demonstration of showmanship. The modern trend today finds churches seeking to please men by offering a program that is popular and pleasing to the world and thus falls short of Biblical worship. Our goal is to honor God with a sacrifice of praise, in Spirit and in Truth.(Jere. 33:11)

We believe in the preaching of the Word of God! There is a modern day trend to de-emphasize preaching and replace it with programs, plays and "theater" type entertainment. The Bible is our example of church program and it specifies when, how and why to preach. (2 Tim. 4:2)  We do not replace the preaching of the Word of God with "sermonettes and stories". God's word is full of doctrine, God's ideas. We preach the "whole council of God." We never want to be popular with man while separating ourselves from God. God knows better than we do about what is important... We trust Him and His Word!              (2 Tim. 4:3) (Jude 3)

We believe that each believer has direct access to God through the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible, God's Word. (1 Tim. 2:5,6; Heb. 10;19-26)

We believe that it is our responsibility to spread the gospel to our area, nation and to the world. (Mark 16:15; Matt. 28:19,20)

We believe that after the honor of being a Christian, it is also an honor, historically, to be called a Baptist. To be called "Baptist" is to often suffer the reproach for holding the doctrines of Christ close to our hearts. A rich heritage precedes us and we are not ashamed to be associated with those associated closely with our Savior Christ Jesus. However, to hold the title in pride or in the sense of denominational and/or in pre-eminence over being "just Christians" is not only against Scripture , it is also not baptistic.

We believe in the separation of church and state, but not the separation of God from government. (1 Peter 2:13-17)
